Role and Responsibilities:
As a Waste Management Lead Refuse Collector, you will support daily frontline route execution, lead peer collector safety protocols, and assist driver leads during high-volume pickup schedules.
• Perform physical pickup, loading, and emptying of commercial and residential waste carts
• Coach new refuse collectors on proper lifting techniques, cart handling, and packer blade operation
• Monitor route progress and assist dispatchers in identifying blocked access lanes or hazardous stops
• Conduct pre-route safety tailgates and verify crew PPE compliance before vehicle dispatch
• Assist drivers with vehicle maneuvering, spotter duties, and routine end-of-day washdowns
• Ensure all customer stops are completed in accordance with service quality standards
Required Skills and Experience:
• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• 1+ years of experience in refuse collection, sanitation, or physically demanding outdoor labor
• Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs repetitively and stand/walk for extended periods
• Strong leadership skills and commitment to safety procedures
• Ability to work early morning hours consistently
Preferred Qualifications:
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Prior peer-coaching or lead laborer experience
• Interest in enrolling in company-sponsored CDL driver training programs
