Role and Responsibilities:
As a Waste Management Fleet Diesel Mechanic, you will support heavy fleet uptime by diagnosing and repairing diesel collection trucks, hydraulic lift systems, and shop machinery.
• Perform diagnostic tests and repairs on commercial diesel engines, transmissions, and electrical circuits
• Inspect, rebuild, and service hydraulic systems, pumps, valves, and heavy packing cylinders
• Perform routine brake inspections, tire replacements, wheel alignments, and air system repairs
• Execute mandatory safety audits and pre-shift inspections to uphold DOT roadworthiness
• Respond to emergency field service breakdown calls to return collection trucks to service
• Maintain clean work bays and follow hazardous chemical material handling procedures
Required Skills and Experience:
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• 3+ years of professional diesel mechanic or commercial heavy equipment maintenance experience
• Proficiency with electronic diagnostic software and hand/power tools
• Valid driver's license (Class A or B CDL strongly preferred)
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, crawl, bend, and work in tight engine spaces
Preferred Qualifications:
• ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician Certification
• Prior experience working specifically on commercial refuse trucks or hydraulic compactors
• Welding and metal fabrication skills
